18th June 2019 - The University of Cumbria Students’ Union will use Membership Solution Ltd’s Student Group Finances system to improve the support services provided to its clubs and societies. With a growing number of student-led groups the Union has recognised the need to streamline their finance processes for committees and so encourage more activities and participation. Student Group Finances will support this initiative by enabling finance requests to be quickly and easily carried out online.

Membership Solution Ltd (MSL) is pleased to be working with University of Cumbria Students’ Union (UCSU) as they implement new initiatives to support student group activities. UCSU has chosen to use MSL’s Student Group Finances system which offers secure online management of club and society finances including income and expenditure requests.

With a population of c.9,000 students, UCSU supports a wide variety of sports, cultural, charity and academic student-led groups across the three University campuses in Carlisle and Lancaster. The Union encourages new groups to form, offering an affiliation system which provides a range of support and incentives to help students get the most out of running their groups. With that comes an increased admin burden on staff, which led UCSU to seek new ways of providing that support online with Student Group Finances.

Danny Prescott, Chief Executive of the University of Cumbria Students’ Union, said:

As a multi-site Students’ Union, with a high level of distance and workplace learners, developing remote access to core services is a priority. MSL’s Student Group Finances module will allow our student leaders to easily manage their club or society through an accessible system which isn’t dependent on them being on campus. We’re very excited to be developing this service that enables and supports our members’ interests and which puts students firmly in charge – where they belong!

Colin Watson, Chief Executive of Membership Solutions, added:

We are pleased to welcome University of Cumbria Students’ Union as the newest member of the MSL community. We’re always delighted to work with clients on new initiatives which support participation – and Student Group Finances is proving to be pivotal for many students’ unions as they build on the important role clubs and societies play in the overall student experience.
